Herald Tribune
Ms. Diane McFarlin is a
fourth-generation Floridian. She began her newspaper career 23 years ago as a
reporter and copy editor in Sarasota, Fla.. She became  managing
editor of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in 1985, and two years later was named
executive editor of the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun, which is also owned by The New
York Times Company. She returned to Sarasota in 1990 as the executive editor of
the Herald-Tribune. On November 1,1999 Diane McFarlin was named publisher of the
Sarasota Herald-Tribune, a New York Times Company newspaper. She is the
President of American Society of Newspaper Editors and a past president of the
Florida Society of Newspaper Editors.

In 1925 a Sarasota newspaper, the
Sarasota Herald was founded by David B. Lindsay.
1938 the Sarasota Herald was
purchased by the Sarasota Daily Tribune and the newspaper became known as
Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
